Manassero turns Pro
10 May 2010
Congratulations to past DOY YCT player, Italian Matteo Manassero who, aged 17, has just turned Professional.
The reigning British amateur champion, who finished a brilliant 13th in The Open last July and then made history by becoming the youngest-ever player in Aprils Masters, where he finished an impressive 36th and the leading amateur, made his professional debut at the Italian Open in Turin on May last week.
Aged just 16, Manassero played with Tom Watson and Sergio Garcia in the first two rounds of The Open last year at Turnberry and his two over par total of 282 was only one outside the Open record by an amateur, set by Englands Iain Pyman at Sandwich in 1993 and matched by Tiger Woods at Lytham three years later. His performance at The Masters was outstanding and he clearly has a great future ahead of him.
